Indiana basketball is looking to build off of the recruiting class it added to the Big Ten’s Big Dance in February.
The Hoosiers are ranked No. 2 in the country in ESPN’s recruiting rankings, according to 247Sports.
The team is led by guard T.J. Leaf, a 6-foot-7 forward from Miami.
The recruiting class includes 6-11 power forward Jalen Brunson, a four-star prospect from Georgia, as well as 6-9 power forward Josh Harris from Mississippi.
The 5-10 guard Brandon Jones is also considered one of the top prospects in the class, according the 247Sports Composite.
Indiana is also looking to add three-point shooting, and forward Benji Lopez has committed to Wisconsin.
Indiana has lost its top two guards in the past two seasons.
The IU frontcourt is led, by far, by guard Tyler Lydon, who is ranked No, 4 in the 247Composite.
He’s the second-best player in the Big East and the nation, behind Kansas’ Marcus Smart.
Indiana also has five players ranked in the top 30 nationally in the Class of 2019, with five of them ranked in ESPN.
Indiana’s best player is guard Trevon Duval, a 5-11 forward from Oklahoma State.
The Big Ten Player of the Year, Duval has the most assists per game (15.9) and most steals per game with 13.7.
Duval is also averaging 13.4 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Indiana and Kansas State are the only teams in the conference with more than two recruits each in the 2019 class.
Purdue has lost three of its top five recruits, and senior forward Isaiah Thomas is now a junior.
Purdue’s best offensive player is senior guard Trey Lyles, a six-foot center from Kansas.
The 6-8 Lyles averaged 13.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season.
The Boilermakers are also looking for depth, and guard Jordan Johnson is a three-star recruit.
Johnson is one of three five-star recruits for Purdue in the next class.
Indiana leads the conference in rebounding, but Indiana’s lack of experience at center and power forward could help the Boilerbacks’ offensive struggles.
Indiana can add another five-man to the recruiting rankings.
It has five five-stars in the 2018 class, including four-stars forward Isaiah Davis and guard Jaron Blossomgame.
The Bluejays have one five-footer in the current class, senior forward Luke Hancock.
Indiana needs a big-time scorer to complement its two best guards.
